An entrepreneurial medium-sized company retained us to conduct due diligence on a potential new chief executive, who was re-locating to the UK from overseas. Our research uncovered the candidate was being pursued by his previous shareholders for breach of fiduciary duty and violation of local corporate governance codes. We were therefore asked to investigate a second candidate put forward by the search agency. This individual had previously run the overseas operations of a large utility business. His now retired former line manager informed us that he had been dismissed for "putting his hand in the cookie jar once too often". A third candidate came up smelling of roses. Our client has not renewed its use of that particular recruitment agency.
